CREACTION HOSTS A CONFERENCE/VISIT ON SPACE TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER AT ESA-ESEC IN REDU

A unique opportunity to learn more about the activities of PROBA 3 on-site at ESA-ESEC at Redu, together with some examples of how space technologies can impact daily life on earth

The ASBL Mars et Mercure and Création Int. invite you to take part in a conference-visit at ESA-ESEC in Redu on 21 May, including a tour of the Misssion Operation Centre, a presentation on space technology transfer (the latest Créaction results available for publication, etc.) and a sit-down meal on site (40 places available).

Located 50 minutes from the Luxembourg border, Redu has become THE cybersecurity centre for all ESA installations worldwide. However, the visit will focus more specifically on a world first: the observation of the sun for 6 hours in a row thanks to a Belgian technological feat, PROBA 3. Two satellites launched in a system of ‘nesting dolls’ which, once separated in microgravity, enable the study of the solar corona: they work like an eclipse, with one shielding the other down to the micrometre. The Belgian feat? The two satellites fly at 26,000 km/hour while maintaining a distance of 130 to 140 metres between them, almost automatically, and above all... they work continuously on two different ellipses. A configuration that works like a charm. We will probably have some unprecedented images on the 21st.

In the area of space technology transfer, Créaction won the contract for the first space weather forecast for terrestrial applications a few years ago, for and with the results of the IASB (Institut d'Aéronomie Spatiale Belge, in Brussels). Observing the sun over a long period of time makes it possible to forecast the weather (Space Weather), which is very useful if not for astronauts, then for satellites (satellite survival), for aviation and pilots, but also for power stations in Northern Europe and the many other technologies that use satellites today... The defence sector is also certainly very interested!
