INDUSTRY SPACE DAYS 2024

As far as CREACTION is concerned, the two-day event is all about collaboration and technology transfer. Everything is organised with this in mind, and the bell that rings every ¼ of an hour to mark the start and end of the many B2B meetings provides the rhythm for the working day.

A first meeting with a potential partner, and ESA Industry Space Days are no exception, is first and foremost (and almost always) a first meeting with a person you don't know... The environment in which you work can make it much easier, if not quicker, to make contact with a potential partner. We are talking here about business friendliness. A word of advice: make an appointment now for September 2025!

The Industry Space Days took place over two days in mid-September at the ESA / ESTEC site (the European Space Agency's technical centre in Noordwijk, the Netherlands/ 3.200 people). Noordwijk is located on a natural site and also has the (non-professional) advantages of a seaside town on the North Sea. During these two professional days, ESTEC welcomes and selects any company wishing to find out about space business opportunities: negotiating a space technology and/or know-how, but also presenting its innovative technology to study its transferability to the space sector.

CREACTION, the ESA Technology Broker for Luxembourg, took part again this year with a view to studying new space opportunities and finding customers for Luxembourg technologies, as well as meeting potential partners interested in creating/consolidating new components, systems and services. As far as CREACTION is concerned, the two-day event is all about collaboration and technology transfer. Everything is organised with this in mind, and the bell that rings every ¼ of an hour to mark the start and end of the many B2B meetings provides the rhythm for the working day. European R&D is on show, and the consolidation of an ever more efficient European space industry is happening right here!

In terms of making contacts, the first TT meeting with a potential partner always brings with it a natural element of personal apprehension; it's a first meeting with a person you don't know, with a partner you're approaching for the first time. This can seem stressful... Also, an unfamiliar work environment can have a positive or negative effect on participants. In this liberating working atmosphere, it can be much easier, if not quicker, to make contact with your counterpart. The noise level plays a direct part in the success of such an event, especially when there are thousands of people talking huddled round tables. The background noise must be motivating, but also acceptable.

In a hive, bees may hum for a variety of reasons, and occasionally they may also buzz (for better ventilation, communication and orientation of supply sources, etc.). During these two days, in the two large tents set up for the occasion, the generalized noise level emitted was probably close to the hum of the strongest rapid wing beats of bees, the moment of swarming. The frequency of 250 Hz is at the lowest point of the low-mid part of the frequency spectrum. A frequency of around 250 Hz is still perfectly acceptable, providing a motivating working environment that respects others. Environmental sounds at this frequency level include low-pitched sounds (125, 250 Hz), for example the sound of ocean waves. From the swarming of ideas to the waves of the ocean, we weren't far off, we were almost touching them...!
