SPACE CARGO UNLIMITED INAUGURATES ITS NEW PREMISES IN LUXEMBOURG

In the near to medium-term Space Cargo Unlimited is planning a total of seven launches of its BentoBox technology

On 15 September Luxembourg firm Space Cargo Unlimited held the official ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of its new head office on the Technoport site at Foetz with the company’s founder Nicolas Gaume, Minister of the Economy Lex Delles and the head of the Luxembourg Space Agency Marc Serres officiating. The company has received funding from the Luxembourg Future Fund II and the European Investment Fund to develop its technology and also enjoys a close partnership with the Luxembourg and European space agencies.

In the near to medium-term Space Cargo Unlimited is planning a total of seven launches of its BentoBox technology, a miniature, unmanned space station which is designed to return to earth after journeys of between three weeks and three months. The company aims to offer prices as low as €20 000 per kilogram, thereby making space accessible at highly competitive prices. Despite the monopoly which Elon Musk’s SpaceX holds over today’s commercial space launch industry, Space Cargo Unlimited is confident that the arrival of new European launch capabilities in the coming years will help it reach its commercial objectives.

Among its first customers is certain to be Exobiosphere, another young space company based in Luxembourg which is aiming to carry out tests in microgravity which could lead to new cures for cancer. It plans to send three autonomous medical testing units into space thanks to the BentoBox, thus enabling it to conduct thousands of experiments on living tissue samples.

Space Cargo Unlimited already has a staff of 10 in Luxembourg and is planning to triple that figure by 2027.
